Abstract

This research analyzes the performance of two media transfer protocols, namely Hypertext transfer protocol secure (HTTPS) and Interplanetary File System (IPFS), in the context of cloud-based storage. Case studies were conducted on Amazon S3 and Filecoin storage to gain an understanding of the advantages of each protocol. The performance metric compared is data retrieval access speed. The results of this analysis provide insight into the implementation potential of both protocols in different cloud storage scenarios. By understanding the characteristics and performance of HTTPS and IPFS, decision makers can make more informed choices in designing storage infrastructure that suits specific user needs. Upload and Download speed tests were carried out on two protocols HTTPS and IPFS to compare the speed performance of Amazon S3 and Filecoin. The analysis results show that Amazon S3 is superior in terms of Upload and Download speed using files measuring 5MB, 15MB, 30MB, 50MB, 70MB, 85MB, and 100MB with a total time for Amazon S3 for Upload 137.4s and Download 388.1s while Filecoin takes longer with total upload time results 184s and 474.7s. Amazon S3 is generally faster than Filecoin for data access and retrieval. However, Filecoin offers advantages in terms of decentralization, data resilience, and censorship resistance, which may be more important considerations by users for certain use cases.
